How To Make Easy DIY Harry Potter Chocolate Frogs

Chocolate frogs are a must-have treat for any Harry Potter, witch-themed or Halloween party! They are easy to make, yummy to eat and add so much to a magical event. Whether you’re hosting a birthday party or a Potter movie night these chocolate frogs will bring the wizarding world to life.

What I love most about the chocolate frogs is how fancy and professional they look, yet how easy and simple they are to make. You don’t need to be an expert in the kitchen to get these right!

We made these chocolate frogs for my 9-year-old son’s birthday party, and they were a big hit. Kids love chocolate and they love fun-shaped food, combine the two, and you’ll have extremely excited kids!

How To Make Easy DIY Halloween Chocolate Frogs

What you need:

  • Chocolate (dark, milk, or white, depending on your preference)
  • Frog-shaped chocolate mold (you can find these online at Amazon)
  • Optional: white chocolate/crunch/peanut butter/caramel (or any other filling)
Ingredients for chocolate frogs

I made the chocolate frogs with dark dairy chocolate for the outside and used two different fillings. I made half the frogs with white chocolate and the other half with peanut butter. I also added an almond crunch to a few of them.

If you’re looking for a very simple and quick option, filling the molds with one type of chocolate is just as effective. I enjoy trying out different things in the kitchen, so it was an adventure for me.

How to make the Chocolate Frogs:

Prepare the Chocolate:

Melt your chocolate using a microwave or double boiler method. If using the microwave, heat in short bursts of 30 seconds, stirring in between, to avoid burning the chocolate.

Melt the chocolate

Fill the Molds:

Once the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, use a spoon and add the chocolate to the mold. Make sure to coat the mold with chocolate everywhere but don’t fully fill it. You want to leave space for the filling.

Fill the molds with chocolate

Add White Chocolate/Peanut Butter/Crunch:

Carefully spoon in your filling without applying too much pressure. You don’t want the filling to mix with the dark chocolate. If you want your chocolate frogs to have a bit of crunch like the ones in Harry Potter, sprinkle a small amount of crunch on top of the filling. I used some almond crunch which was delicious, but, if anyone has nut allergies, you can opt for Rice Krispies.

Don’t fret if it doesn’t look perfect. It doesn’t need to be too neat because, in all honesty, no one will ever see it! It will be covered with chocolate.

Cover the Filling:

Using the remaining dark chocolate, cover the filling. Don’t worry about making it too neat since this is the underside of the frogs that no one will see. Mine weren’t perfect, but the frogs still turned out perfectly! As long as there are no major bumps, your frogs will stand just fine.

Set the Chocolate:

Place the molds in the freezer to allow the chocolate to set completely. This usually takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Remove the Frogs from the Mold:

Once the chocolate has hardened, carefully remove the frogs from the mold. Providing the chocolate has hardened properly, the molds should slide off without a hitch.

Tips:

  • Use good quality chocolate for the best taste and texture.
  • Ensure the molds are clean and dry before pouring in the melted chocolate to prevent any imperfections.
  • Experiment with different types of chocolate or add-ins like nuts or dried fruit for variety.
  • They can be made in advance and kept in the freezer for an organized party.
