Easy Chicken Sesame Toast Recipe

Easy Chicken Sesame Toast Recipe

If you’ve never made chicken sesame toast before, you are seriously missing out! It looks incredibly impressive, disappears in about two minutes flat, and is honestly so much easier to make than it looks. It’s a favorite around here; my kids simply can’t get enough of it!

Chicken Sesame Toast

Inspired by classic Chinese prawn toast, this version uses ground chicken instead of seafood, making it accessible and budget-friendly. They’re perfect for a ‘fancy’ dinner, any party (as an appetiser or main), and any occasion where you want an addictive and easy chicken dish! They’re crispy, golden and addictive; they’re the first thing to go at any party, and the best part is, they’re so easy to make at home, and I have a few tricks to make it even easier!

Most people make chicken sesame toast with chicken breast, then put it in the food processor to get a fine mixture. I skip that step completely by using already minced chicken, which saves so much time.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Quick & easy to make
  • Perfect party appetizer that everyone loves
  • So much more budget-friendly than the prawn version
  • Crispy, golden, and completely addictive
  • Great for making ahead and reheating

How to make:

Ingredients

  • 1lb ground chicken
  • white bread
  • 1 tsp salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1/2tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • oil for frying
  • sesame seeds
  • parsley (optional)

Step 1. Cut the Bread

Cut the crust off the bread so you get that seamless sesame chicken.

Step 2. Combine the Ingredients

It’s as simple as it sounds, all you need to do is add all the ingredients except for the oil and sesame to a bowl, and mix together really well.

Step 3. Prepare the Chicken

Spread a generous amount of the chicken mixture onto the bread. Then, using a wet-ish knife, cut the bread into quarters diagonally. Using a damp knife stops the minced chicken from sticking to it. Always prepare the mince

Step 4. Dip into Sesame Seeds

Press each piece of bread, chicken side down, into the sesame seeds until the chicken is evenly coated. The seeds will stick to the chicken.

Step 4. Bake, Fry, Airfry

This is where the recipe gets versatile. The traditional way is to fry, but it’s time-consuming and not really healthy. For an easier, healthier option, spray the toasts with oil and bake in the oven at 400°F until crispy. Alternatively, if you have an air-fryer, you can stick them in there for a fried taste that’s healthier!

Step 7. Serve

Now that it’s made, you have the perfect appetizer or finger food for any occasion. My only word of warning is that whatever you serve will be gone, they’re that addictive!

Chicken Sesame Steps

Tips for the Best Chicken Sesame Toast

  • Dip, don’t sprinkle: press the chicken-covered side of each toast into a shallow bowl of sesame seeds rather than sprinkling them on. You get a much better, more even coating this way and far less mess!
  • Cook chicken side down first: always start with the sesame seed side facing down in the oil. This gives you that gorgeous golden crust and stops the seeds from falling off. If you’re air frying or baking, the sesame side needs to be face up.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan: fry in small batches so the oil temperature stays consistent. Overcrowding drops the temperature and gives you soggy toast instead of crispy!

What to Serve With Chicken Sesame Toast

These are perfect on their own but even better with a dipping sauce! Here are my favorites:

  • Sweet & sour sauce: the Asian classic and my go-to for this recipe
  • Sweet chilli sauce: another classic and absolutely delicious
  • Hoisin sauce: rich, sweet, and really authentic
  • Soy and ginger dipping sauce: for those who love ginger
  • Garlic mayo: for a more Western twist that everyone loves

Can I Make These Ahead of Time?

Yes! You can prepare them ahead of time and leave in the fridge for 24 hours. Reheat for a short amount of time either in an air fryer or in the oven. They also freeze beautifully!

Are These Good for a Party?

These are one of the best party appetizers you can make! They look impressive, taste incredible, and you can prep them ahead of time so you’re not frying to order while your guests are waiting. Serve them on a platter with a few different dipping sauces and watch them disappear! Check out my easy party finger food ideas for more inspiration on what to serve alongside them!
