Are you planning a Harry Potter party? No magical party can be complete without some wizard wands. Upgrade classical wands to delicious edible ones that the kids can make themselves or you can create them ahead of time for table decor.

These DIY edible wizard wands are super easy to make and look adorable! We made these magical wands for my 9-year-old son’s Harry Potter birthday party, but they’re also perfect for a witch or wizard party or a Halloween party. We made them ahead of time for the table decor and they sure added to the theme!

There are so many different ways to make edible wands, I chose child-friendly ones that I know kids will love! These Magical Edible Wizard Wands made with licorice, white chocolate and sprinkles are easy to make, follow my recipe and method below to transform your Pottery party.

How to make DIY Edible Wizard Wands

You can make edible wands sweet or savory. I chose to use licorice because kids love sweets and it was for a kid’s party. I would have used black licorice because it looks a lot more like a wand, but my son doesn’t like black licorice so red it is!

I let my son choose the chocolate color and the sprinkles too and I think he did a good job! The light chocolate with the dark sprinkles makes a nice contrast.

What you need:

Red or black licorice sticks (or any color of your choice)
White chocolate or candy melts
Assorted sprinkles, edible glitter, or colored sugar

Instructions:

Making the edible wands is quick and easy. If you’re making them with kids, a clever tip is to lay out baking paper because it can get a little messy.

Start by melting your chocolate in the microwave or a double-boiler. If you’re using a microwave, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely smooth and melted. For a double-boiler, keep an eye on the chocolate so that it doesn’t burn.

Once you’ve got smooth melted chocolate, dip the licorice into the chocolate, you may need a spoon to help fully coat the licorice with the white chocolate.

Once fully coated, immediately dip it into the sprinkles or candy that you’re decorating it with. To get the desired effect, make sure there’s a generous amount of sprinkles.

Finish off by placing the decorated licorice sticks on a sheet of parchment paper or mat to set. Allow the chocolate to harden completely. This can take about 15-20 minutes at room temperature, I sped up the process by placing them in the refrigerator for a few minutes.

Once the chocolate has set, your Magical Edible Wizard Wands are ready to be enjoyed! Arrange them on a serving platter, or a food board, or stand them up in a decorative container for a stunning display.

The wands can be made ahead of time and stay fresh in an airtight container for a few days.

Lay the licorice sticks on a baking sheet or large plate. This will make it easy to decorate them once they’re dipped in chocolate.
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely smooth and melted. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as it can burn. You can also melt the chcoclate in a double boiler.
Take each liquorice stick and dip one end into the melted chocolate, coating about 1-2 inches of the end. You can use a spoon to help cover the liquorice evenly.
Immediately after dipping, sprinkle the coated end with your choice of sprinkles, edible glitter, or colored sugar. Make sure to cover it properly to get the desired effect.
Place the decorated licorice sticks on a sheet of parchment paper or a silicone mat to set. Allow the chocolate to harden completely. This can take about 15-20 minutes at room temperature, or you can speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator for a few minutes.
